Joy Charbonneau is a well-known and vital contributor to the Canadian design community.

In addition to working as an architect at Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg Architects, she is also a noted artist and curator. 

Continuing in the tradition of artists such as Robert Motherwell and Damien Hirst, Charbonneau initiated, organized and contributed to seminal design exhibitions in Toronto such as "Heavy Metal" (2010), "Tools" (2011), and "Associates" (2012)

In collaboration with Paris-based architect Ed Zec, Charbonneau created the "Volumetric Model of the Great Lakes", a work that exemplifies her dedication to destabilizing the art/design frontiers. 

The forms - three dimension models of the famed water basins - were created from data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

The result is a stunning work of sculpture and a fascinating expression of a 21st century approach to the long-standing artistic practice of pursuing verisimilitude and representing "nature".
